Solution.

Due to the fact that det(λA)=λndet(A)\det(\lambda A) = \lambda^n \det(A), where AA is square matrix n×nn \times n we obtain:


det(2A)=2ndet(A)=2n5=40.\det(2A) = 2^n \det(A) = 2^n \cdot 5 = 40.


Thus, n=log2405=log28=3n = \log_2 \frac{40}{5} = \log_2 8 = 3. So, AA is 3×33 \times 3 matrix.
