1.Inductive Reasoning is a method of reasoning in which the premises are viewed as supplying some evidence for the truth of the conclusion.Relational Understanding of mathematical concepts means a child knows what to do and can explain why. Thus, Inductive reasoning contributes to relational understanding of mathematical concepts.
2.Deductive reasoning, also deductive logic, is the process of reasoning from one or more statements to reach a logically certain conclusion. Deductive reasoning goes in the same direction as that of the conditionals, and links premises with conclusions.Instrumental Understanding means a child knows a rule or procedure and has the ability to do it.Instrumental understanding can be thought of as knowing the rules and procedures without understanding why those rules or procedures work. Deductive reasoning contribute to instrumental understanding of mathematical concepts.
3.From the definitions given, relational understanding includes instrumental understanding and more. Instrumental is simply knowing and applying the rule, while relational is knowing and applying the rule while also being able to know why a rule works and connect one rule with another. Instrumental understanding complements relational understanding.
