 I would rate Max’s EI; if there is a scale from 1- 10, I would rate him 4 according to the four competencies of emotional intelligence;

Self-Awareness- it is the key for EI, and it feels like Max is not completely self-aware of himself, in terms of his thoughts and emotions from time to time which reflects on his job and also being a good leader as the first thing to be self-aware is to practice being a good listener, which according to his performance it shows that he does not value the employees' emotions, not being empathetic enough towards them and also fails to understand them with constantly evaluating and judging them for their job, hence high turnover ratio. Also, he fails to gain a different perspective from his employees.

Self-management- is very much important at the workplace for a better work environment for everyone and for yourself. It is about keeping your patience, being aware of the emotions, perceptiveness, etc. As Max does not show any patience at the workplace or towards his employees, also if he is not aware of his feelings at the moment, how will he show empathy towards others also it shows he does not really display any interest in getting feedback from the others.

Social Awareness- Again failing to understand what it actually means to be a good listener and then react accordingly. Also not paying attention to the tone of voice can be a bummer for employees. For E.g. Max tells his staff if they cannot be committed to the new vision and strategies, it might not be the place for them. Also by saying this to the employees that if they cannot be here on time and then cannot participate instead of being more understanding and empathetic.

Relationship management- it is all about interpersonal skills, the ability to get the best outcome out of the others and also to be able to motivate and influence them at work which is evidently not the case here with Max; given the turnover ratio because it indications that he failed to build the connection with his coworkers and also failed to help them transform, grow and progress.
