Drinking session every Friday night after work is normal in Company A. Those who join the drinking session get to home a favor from the management. Those who don't join are already subjected to heightened scrutiny on normal things that they do in the workplace every day. Discuss what business ethics issues present on this situation. What can be done?
The business ethics not followed in this case is lack of integrity and also honesty is not practiced. The manager does not also take discipline issues seriously because from the case it might seem that he only favors the drunkard and ignore the rest.
Don’t hurt yourself financially, but get out and find a real job in a place run by professionals. You should be able to count on yourself and your skills and getting ahead professionally without discrimination, and without having to put in extra hours being “a friend” to your bosses.
In certain circumstances that can happen naturally and sincerely, it is possible to actually enjoy spending time with your boss. I have on numerous occasions, I have had bosses that were quite naturally funny and made me laugh frequently.
But keep in mind the power dynamic which is always there: Your boss has power over you and your pay. This will never be a friendship of equals as long as you are a subordinate of your boss, and this can result in heartbreak if your boss has to discipline you, fire you, give you a bad work evaluation, or just insist that you stay in your lane.
What need to be done is that the manager need to treat all workers fairly and respect them accordingly, since not everybody want to have a drink at the stated day. Every person has his own principles.
