1.1 Active listening requires one to listen attentively to the speaker, understand what they are saying, respond and reflect on what's being said and retain the information for later. It fosters self-empowerment by promoting psychological safety. An actively listening person asks questions, seeks clarification and encourages others to share perspective, reinforcing one's role in whatever capacity. It also makes one a better coach and promotes personal and professional relationships.
1.3 A person's self-image is formed through social roles, which are external or objective aspects of oneself such as daughter or friend, and personality traits, which are internal or affective aspects of oneself such as humorous, patient etc. It affects the communication process through factors such as self-esteem. Self-esteem affects self-confidence, necessary for effective communication.
1.4 A lack of self-confidence can affect one's communication abilities by raising fear of interaction with others. Low self-confidence leads to poor communication skills.
