How does moderation support the assessment process
Moderation enables teachers within a school to develop and apply a consistent and precise language of assessment which can be used by teachers, students and families to describe and discuss student learning.
Moderation leads to consistency such that;
a) over time – same evidence viewed at different times or different contexts leading to same judgment by same teacher.
b) against curriculum levels or standards – equivalent application across different types of evidence.
c) by a teacher - between his/her students.
The purpose of moderation is to ensure that assessments align with established criteria and standards and are equitable, fair, and valid and that judgments are consistent, reliable, and based on evidence within the task response or assessed work.
