How could public transportation change its image to become more “innovative and hip” rather than “old fashioned and boring”?
Riders want buses to arrive more frequently, first and foremost. Waiting for the bus (often in the rain) accounts for a significant portion of their entire transit time. Riders want to know that their bus will come in a timely manner, preferably within 15 minutes. Transit agencies must constantly monitor vehicle loads and consider changes to mitigate crowding in order to bring passengers back. Other measures, like as obvious cleanliness precautions and mask-wearing, can also help passengers feel more at ease.
