1. Covid-19 pandemic: the pandemic has affected the way businesses work and the supply chain of goods across the country, thus negatively influencing the industry in terms of operations (Luke, 2020).

2. Cost of fuel: motor carriers in the country face a challenge due to the consistently rising cost of fuel; this affects the amount of income and cost of service to the customers

3. Economic: Covid-19 and underlying business factors critically affect the country's economy as the industry faces slumping demand, increasing regulations and taxes (Barnes et al. 2021).

4. Infrastructure: poor transport infrastructure in some regions in South Africa has a significant impact on industry operations; for instance, poor road transport cause delays and poor service delivery.
