A mind map is an illustration with a phrase at the center, lines connecting from the central point to the main idea, and even more lines connecting from main ideas to details. Building out from the middle, mind maps are often said to look like spider webs.

Mind maps may have more than three levels that is; middle, main ideas, and details. To make a mind map one has to consider the following;

1.     Choosing the topic of the mind map and place it in the middle of the drawing 

2.     Coming up with three to five plus main ideas, then evenly space them in a circular formation around the mind map topic 

3.     Drawing a line from the mind map topic to each main idea 

4.     Brainstorming supporting details such as ideas, tasks, and questions for each main idea and finally 

5.     Drawing lines connecting each main idea to its supporting details
