We are all concerned with the serious health impacts of the escalating pollution problem in a country like India where regulation oversight is comparatively lax and penalties & punishments too few and far? Identify and select any one pollution reducing/mitigating initiative practiced and embedded in its business by a listed company that impresses you. Explain this initiative along with the short term & long term positive impact of the same on the environment & people. (refer to Sustainability Report and/or Business Responsibility Report of the company)
Ford Motor Company's ten-part environmental policy
The company uses sustainable fabrics in its vehicles while 80% of both its Escape and Focus vehicles are recyclable. The paint fumes in the company's plant in Michigan are recycled as fuel. The company also focuses on fuel efficiency, particularly on the six-speed transmission, offering a clean diesel heavy-duty pickup truck. Ford owns the largest green roof, and it has won the EPA Energy Star Award twice in a row. Ford's factories use a Geothermal cooling system, and the Crown Victoria Interceptor that it distributes to the police has a fuel capacity that is flexible, making it able to run on either ethanol or gas.
All these in the short-term ensure no pollution and in the long run, it ensures that the health of the human race is maintained, and diseases like skin cancer are prevented, and the ozone layer is intact.
