A security survey is a process formally used to review specific sections, applications, or procedures of a facility to document risks and security vulnerabilities to validate the program in place. The process is critical in determining the value of available assets, evaluating existing security programs, identifying differences or excesses, determining the protection needed, and supporting recommendations to improve overall security generally.

For instance, a security survey on a supermarket can be an excellent example to evaluate. The value of products in the supermarket will be calculated first by the surveyors. Existing security in that particular supermarket will be considered, like how many CCTV cameras are available and how effective the cameras are, how are doors, availability, and brightness of security lights, and availability of security control room. A comparison of security status between that supermarket and other existing supermarkets with security setup to know the upper hand or shorts. The survey team will decide what kind and level of protection the supermarket will need depending on the value of assets and the status of the current security level in the supermarket. Finally, a general recommendation will be an issue concerning the current security status and any needed improvements to assure total security.
