This theory focuses on controlling the behavior of individuals. It is stated on the basis that consequences shape behaviors. It also shows how individuals learn behavior. These behaviors are changed by either rewarding or punishing. Negative reinforcement is achieved by removing aversive stimuli to strengthen the desired behavior. For example, suspending employees who do not follow organizations’ rules. Positive reinforcement includes the use of rewards. For example, rewarding employees who come early for a job. A behavior with positive consequences is repeated while a behavior with negative consequences is not repeated. Both negative and positive reinforcement are used to achieve the desired behavior.
