After your appointment as a project manager, the minister has called a meeting with you in order to ascertain a sense of what your duties entail as a project manager. This is an opportunity for you to showcase the importance of a project manager. Use this opportunity to discuss the role of a project manager in managing projects and reiterate how you will apply the role of a project manager to ensuring that you prudently manage this high profile project.
Project managers play the lead role in planning, controlling, and executing the project.
Planning: the project manager has the responsibility to create an integrated project plan, identify key variables and stakeholders, assign tasks, identify the risk factors, timeline, budget and scope of the project.
Controlling: the project manager needs to monitor and direct the project to ensure that the project is within the scope, time and budget. He or she needs to ensure that there is proper communication between the staff members and the managing team. Besides, the project manager motivates the staff and evaluates their performances to ensure everyone is carrying out their responsibilities.
Executing: the project manager needs to ensure that the key milestones set in place at the beginning of the project are being achieved and tasks are being completed. There is also a need to ensure that the project is flowing smoothly and it will be completed on time.
I will apply these key roles in managing the project to ensure that the organizations goals are achieved. I will identify risk factors earlier on in the project, follow up on employees to ensure they are performing their tasks appropriately, and keep track of the timeline, scope and budget of the project. As a result, I will be able to reduce costs, maximize efficiencies and increase revenue for the organization.
