What challenges do managers face in motivating today's workforce?
First of all, motivation of the workforce has become challenging more especially when the companies have significantly changed the job role of the workers, or have diminished the hierarchy levels, or have left out a substantial number of workers in the name of right-sizing or down-sizing. Thus, certain organizations have preferred to hire and fire and paying for performance approaches while neglecting motivational efforts. These strategies are demotivating for the workforce to enhance effective performance.
The dynamic nature of needs also stance a challenge to a manager in motivating the workforce. Notably, a worker at a particular point in time has different expectations and needs. Such expectations and needs keep on changing and may likewise clash with each other. For example, the extra time spent at the workplace might clash with the workforce’s time for social needs and affiliation.
