A kitchen supervisor is responsible for managing the entire kitchen. They are in charge of supervising the kitchen staff and maintaining kitchen operations to ensure that safety regulations are complied with.
A kitchen supervisor manages all the activities of food preparation, pantry, kitchen, storeroom personnel, foodstuff purchases and kitchen supplies. He plans or participates in planning of menus, apportioning of ingredients, preparing and sharing out foods, and utilizing leftovers. He ensures that food is cooked according to the expected quality and cleanliness standards and therefore supervises food’s taste, smell and appearance before any serving is made.
He is responsible for hiring and training of employees after identifying the gap in the kitchen and in the same way fires non-performing workers. He supervises the non –cooking personnel such as the kitchen helper, workers in the storage, inventory and in the foodstuff and supplies distribution.
