Globally, individuals who identify as LGBTI endure avast array of discriminatory laws and practices, like hate speech. Contact with the criminal justice system imposes a range of additional risks to individuals that are perceived to be, or who identify as, LGBTI. Different states have developed a comprehensive approach to address the complexities that victims face in reporting,and the organisational and procedural factors that impede victims’ access to justice and the proper recording of hate crime. Also, understanding the obstacles to victims’ access to justice will allow for the adoption of targeted measures that facilitate such access and make victims’ fundamental right to access justice a reality.
