How did colonization lead to slavery
In the later stages of Africa’s conquest, Europeans opted to subdue local ethnic groups to create a total colonial rule for full exploitation of mineral resources. From around the 15th to 16th centuries, slavery became a huge commodity for European trading activities. Explicitly, the Portuguese started the slave trade in the year 1510 while the Dutch captured all their possessions along the African coastline in the year 1642. During the triangular trade that started from the colonization of Africa by the Europeans, slaves were bought in West Africa, transported to the Americas to work in the cotton production sector. The pieces of cotton were later shipped to European countries and transformed into textiles. Moreover, the textiles were then shipped back to Africa in exchange for more slaves.
