Why did the monarchs of some other European powers initially (but quietly) welcome the French Revolution?
The French Revolution was an impetus for different countries that were battling for comparative freedoms. They had hope that the revolution was to be a blessing to the European continent. It will fasten the growth and strengthen the unity of European countries. Similarly, they wanted equality and to abolish the estate system. Representation in government. Austria and Prussia wanted France to restore Louis to his position as an absolute monarch, and as a result, the Legislative Assembly declared war.
