Question: What have you learned about the forces that shape a nation’s universe of obligation?

Universe of obligation is a circle of individuals and groups in a society to whom obligations are owed, rules apply and injuries call for amendments. In a nation this circle depends on some forces to decide on whose rights and privileges need protection and whose not. For example in times of crisis, nations define this circle narrowly to who is truly one of us and the ones who are suspects do not deserve protection and respect. This universe obligation in a nation can change depending on the current situation. Political movements and ideologies based on nationalism, racism and anti-Semitism also take part in defining the universe of obligation.
