How were native people treated in Portugal during imperialism?
*Important: In-text citation needed
Portugal’s colonial power treated natives as slaves during imperialism; they displaced the natives from their lands and established crop plantations which later led to the development of slavery of the natives (De Almeida, 2016). Portuguese colonized South American countries, including Brazil, and deprived native Brazilians of their rights to own land and other properties and their freedom.
