Some enlightenment thinkers during the 19th include Alexander Crummell and Frederick Douglass. Alexander Crummel brought the idea of legal rights to that status on blacks, for he reasoned that if the rights of blacks were favored, this could be disastrous and could lead to future retraction. Frederick Douglass's ideas were that races ought to be conserved through the racial organization to prevent unjust order that could lead to equality. Douglass argued that the multiracial sphere could ensure a better community incorporating Africans and whites towards a common good.
