Explain role of religion in the Haitian revolution in 1791-1804.

The causes of Haitian Revolution were;

The frustrated aspirations of affrachis', brutality of slave owners and aspiration of French revolution.

During the revolution, religion through the priests had a some roles to play as follows;

1) conducting mass for insurrectionists martyred souls.

2) Giving religious instructions and rituals for rebel camps.

3) Acted as intermediaries between slave leaders and French authorities.

4) They offered council for revolutionary leaders of all colours.

Voodoo also played a role of together disparate forces in the colony by uniting various rebel factions to fight side by side.
