Briefly discuss why decolonization in Africa became more rapid after the end of the Second World War.
The second World War had a significant impact on Africa; European powers lacked political support and wealth to continue colonizing African countries after the war. The Europeans could not contain the rising superpowers after the war, and the US and the Soviet Union were against colonization and championed colonies' independence. The European powers were consumed by the postwar economic crisis, such as huge debts. They were no longer capable of sustaining their colonies in Africa, thus leading to swift decolonization after the war.
