The Kartilya is a collection of thirteen lessons that serve as a guide for the Katipuneros in living a moral and ethical life. It was like a code of conduct that demonstrated how to speak and act like a true Filipino. This Kartilya ng Katipuan, in my opinion, demonstrates how any Filipino may have a meaningful life. Each lesson is distinct in that it addresses many parts of a person's life. Many of us may have different interpretations and perspectives on it, but it is necessary to gain a deeper grasp of its contents.
The first emphasizes the importance of living a purposeful life. "The life of a Katipunero without a purpose is a life wasted." This notion encapsulates the essence of life. Life is a gift that should be cherished by making it meaningful by creating objectives and accomplishing them, no matter how difficult they may be. The second guideline is to always do the right thing. "A deed done for the purpose of notoriety is unworthy of praise." There are some things you may do in life that will make others proud of you, but sometimes it's simply for the sake of being popular. Everyone should remember that doing good must be accompanied by humility. A good deed must be done because it is something that someone truly wants to do to help others.
Going back in time, the road to freedom was long and difficult. Bravery and principle come at a hefty cost. They believed that the day of true independence would always remain a fantasy. Filipinos were brought together by the Kartilya ng Katipunan to fight for what they had. Kartilya ng Katipunan became an oath that all Katipuneros must take to demonstrate their commitment to being a part of the movement for change.
