The abolitionists used many ways to convince people that the slave trade should be abolished. A network of local abolition groups was established across Britain. These groups campaigned through public meetings and the publication of pamphlets and petitions.Throughout European colonies in the Caribbean, enslaved people engaged in revolts, labour stoppages and more everyday forms of resistance which enticed colonial authorities, who were eager to create peace and maintain economic stability in the colonies, to consider legislating abolition. The British economy prospered from the slave trade. Individuals, businesses and ports all generated finance and tax revenue. Many believed the Abolitionist cause was associated with revolutionary ideas. There was a real fear in Britain that it may go the same way as France.
