Jainism- two sects of Jainism occurred as a result of famine in Magadha; the famine compelled Bhadrabahu to South India when they came back, their Jainism practices had changed, leading to two sects (Digambara and Svetambara).
Buddhism- two sects of Buddhism came into being due to Gautama Buddha's death in 400 BC. they were compelled to divide into Mahayana and Hinayana, with each sect having its meaning and course of life. Mahayana represented Great Vehicle and Hinayana represented Small Vehicle
