Jihads in West Africa
The major Jihad in West Africa constituted a series of the Fulani revolutions that occurred between 18th and 9tn century. The very first Jihad that happened in West Africa took place in Futa Jalon, and it was mainly brought about by a combination of Muslims and the Fulani pastoralists rising against the then indigenous chiefdoms that were still dominated by traditional religion. The war was mainly aimed enhancing Muslim domination in the West Africa area by watering down any form of traditional religion that existed there before.
