How were Booker T. Washington's ideas discredited by later events?
The main idea of Booker T was that blacks should obtain social accountability and need to work from the base to the top to attain this. He was motivated by equality between blacks and whites and convinced the citizens to end the idea of discrimination and promote cooperation.
Three years after Washington's speech, the only coup in American history was arranged in Wilmington, North Carolina, by racist thugs. Washington was yielding what he'd already lost. In return, he hoped to secure the right of good Christian blacks to work the land in peace.
