Cape was colonised by the Dutch East India Company, referred to as Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie(VOC) in the mid-17th century. the rules and decisions that were made by the government ensured that VOC company made profit without considering the right of the slaves. The authoritarian rule of the company dictated what the farmers could grow at a fixed price. They also controlled immigration and engaged in monopolistic trade.
