Background: Monsoon winds or Monsoons refer to the seasonal change in the direction of the prevailing winds of a region. In India, summer monsoons typically last from June to September with large areas of western and central India receiving more than 90% of their total annual precipitation during the period and Southern and north-western India receiving 50%-75% of their total annual rainfall. Overall, monthly totals average 200-300mm over the country as a whole, with the largest values observed during the heart of the monsoon season in July and August (www.britannia.com).

Problem Statement

During summer in the Northern hemisphere, high temperatures over the Asian interior create a large low pressure system. Warm, moist air from over the Indian Ocean flows the land areas.
