1. The statement scale. The statement scale is when you make a statement saying what the distance on the map is represented on the ground. For instance: 1 centimeter measured on the map represents 1 kilometer measured on the ground.
2. The representative fraction. The scale is given as a fraction: 1/10 or as 1:10.It means that one unit measured on the map stands for ten of the same units on the ground.
3. The linear scale or line scale. Tthis is the most common scale used for maps. This is a ruler that is drawn below a map that can be used to measure a distance.
