Examine the ideas of Greek philosophers on the shape and size of the earth during the
classical times.
The ancient Greek mathematician Pythagoras suggested that the Earth has the shape of a ball. According to the theory of Pythagoras, everything in nature is arranged correctly and beautifully, and the scientist considered the ball to be the most correct and therefore beautiful figure.
The sphericity of the Earth was first proved by another ancient Greek scientist - Aristotle. Observing the lunar eclipse, he noticed that the shadow from the Earth is in the shape of a circle.
