Question #191191

The idea of Greek philosophers on the shape and size of the earth during the classical times.

Expert's answer

Eratosthenes measured the radius of the Earth quite precisely in 240 BCE. He thought that the Earth is a sphere, while other Greek philosophers believed the Earth is something round, like a curved dish or a top part of a sphere and were not interested in measuring of the size of our planet.
