The Theme of Manjula Padmanabhan, ‘Hidden Fires’ is anti-communalism. It takes on the subjects of violence, narrow thinking in the community, and intolerance. It is characterized by the writer’s sense of humour which is mostly dry.
The play is about a woman whose husband is part of rioting and stamping out lives who are just but mere faces to him. He is of the idea that the crowd pose a threat to his security until he receives similar treatment.
