The meaning of that phrase is that Art remains something like a burden or damnation to everyone who possesses it. Art relates to society since people of different social classes can see and represent art in different colors due to their financial opportunities. This way, wealthy people have everything to make their world colorful at the same time placing dark colors on poor ones.
