A: Such words are called common-core words and are divided into three different categories (i.e Tier).
1) The first tier is generally present in a spoken language. Such words are frequent and do not need any kind of extra explanation. A good example would be: Baby, Walk, Book, Chair, Piano
2) Tier 2 words are used by mature language users and often than not, present challenges to people from different countries. Such words include: establish, accelerate, alternative.
3) Tier 3 words are used in specific areas and are not often heard outside of their respective field. Examples of 3rd tier words are: Abbreviation, Brainstorm, Cohesion, Hyperbole, Imperative
