List and discuss challenges of Cooperative Learning as a teaching strategy
Cooperative learning is an instruction approach where learners work in small groups to accomplish a common learning goal. Challenges of cooperative learning as a teaching strategy include:
People learn at different speeds: groupwork could take longer than individual learning due to different learning speeds
Groups may struggle if they lack groupwork skills: if learners have never worked in groups before, they may lack skills to have successful groupwork
Social loafing: this is where some learners put in less effort than the rest of the team in group working situations
Group conflict: group dynamics may raise differences among individuals, resulting in conflict and disrupting learning
