Setting- the setting is a short story is the time and place in which the story happens.
Character- a character is a person or even an animal, who takes part in the action of the story.
Plot- plot is a series or sequence of events in the story.
Conflict- conflict in a story is a struggle between opposing forces. Characters must act to confront those forces and there is where conflict is born. If there is nothing to overcome, there is no story. Conflict in a story creates and drives the plot forward.
Theme- the term theme can be defined as the underlying meaning of a story. It is the message the writer is trying to convey through the story. Often the theme of a story is a broad message about life. The theme of a story is important because a story's theme is part of the reason why the author wrote the story.
Point of view- the point of view of a story is the perspective from which a story is told. Writers may choose to tell their story from one of three perspectives: First-person: chiefly using "I" or "we" Third-person: chiefly using "he," "she," or "it," which can be limited single character knowledge or omniscient all knowing.
