 The Ancient Greek Linguistics group (belonging to the chair group of Greek Language and Literature) focuses on diverse aspects of the syntax, semantics and pragmatics of Greek expressions.

Philologists linguistics focuses on studies on the history of languages, especially by looking closely at literature.

Modern linguistics refers to the scientific study of language and its structure. This includes the study of features such as grammar, syntax, and phonetics. The main trends and principles of modern linguistics such as interactivity, anthropocentricity, communicativeness, dialogises, discursiveness, culture centricity, interest in deep language knowledge, which interact even in one research.

Saussure introduced Structuralism in Linguistics, marking a revolutionary break in the study of language, which had till then been historical and, philological. In his Course in General Linguistics (1916), Saussure saw language as a system of signs constructed by convention.
