Keeping the students engaged in learning requires some strategic planning in course development and teaching patterns. Many teaching strategies work for any classroom, no matter what the age of the student or the subject. When a teacher implements a combination of effective teaching strategies, their students have more opportunities to perform better in class.

Below are some approaches a teacher can use to improve learner’s daily practice;

i.                   Encourage learning from experience- the best lessons often happen outside of the classroom. Getting out in the real world offers a new perspective for learners and can help them gain a more profound understanding of what goes on in the classroom. Studying the different types of plants in a local field is an excellent example of learning from experience. Learners are able to see different real plant species and how each plan contributes to the environment.

ii.                 Let the student teach- letting the student lead the class in teaching requires preparation and a deep understanding of coursework. You can assign this task individually or break up students into groups. The goal of this strategy is to get your students to display the knowledge they have and share it with their classmates. In order to give a quality lesson, they will need to put extra time into making sure they fully comprehend the topic.

iii.               Develop a real connection with students-  accept all students and get to know who they are outside of their classroom and let them get to know you. This achieves two critical goals. First, it builds trust between you, which in turn builds your credibility with them. The more credibility you have, the more likely they are to take your advice seriously. Second, knowing about a student’s particular circumstances and personality will help you figure out issues affecting or related to poor students’ performance and how to improve on them.

iv.               Set high standards- cultivate an academic environment in your classroom by setting high, but not impossible expectations for your students. Push students to achieve higher standards and they will eventually get there, and along the way offer lots of praise to motivate them to scale up even higher.

v.                 Stay up to date- a good teacher must stay updated. Ensure that you are aware of all the latest news, educational advancements, and technologies. By conveying this information to your students, you can ensure they have the most relevant knowledge to succeed.

Behavior development for students is a key indicator of their overall performance. Good behavior translates to better performance of the students and vice versa.
