Long-term consequences of workplace bullying include the following;
a) Health risk such as high blood pressure, mood changes, and panic attacks among other conditions
b) Low self-esteem
c) Reduced concentration levels at work
Several strategies can be utilized to deal with the effects of workplace bullying as discussed below.
Setting boundaries: When a colleague engages in any form of bullying, it is prudent to rebuke such actions and inform them that such conducts are unacceptable. Having known boundaries helps to keep at bay persons who might have ill intentions of engaging in retrogressive behavior.
Confronting the behavior: After establishing a boundary, it is critical to follow through with the effects. An employee should call out the behavior in case it repeats and make perpetrators aware of your stance that you do not tolerate any form of bullying.
Keeping track of bullying incidents: Whenever a staff experiences bullying at work, it is essential to record the incident and discuss it with supervisors for immediate action.
