Nationalism can both be favorable and also cause harm. Nationalism led to the defeat of the French in the Vietnam War in 1954 since many people volunteered to take part in the war to drive the French away. It was favorable because it led to a certain degree of freedom and independence. One disadvantage of nationalism in Japan is seen in the 19th century when Japan attacked the Pearl Harbour, and a military ruled Japan. It led to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Therefore, nationalism can both be bad and good.
