Write a 10 sentence-essay
Dith Pran was born in the Cambodian town of Siem Reap on September 27, 1942. The Japanese army occupied Cambodia, which was part of French Indochina at the time, but Pran's home was far from the center of the occupying force's power. He grew up near the ruins of Angkor Wat, a vast complex of temples built centuries ago in northwestern Cambodia. Pran's father was a senior public-works official, and he went to local schools where he learned French. He taught himself English and went to work as an interpreter for the United States Military Assistance Command after graduating from high school in 1960.
