Symbolic interactionism is a sociological perspective that gives insight on the manner in which societies are created, and maintained through meaningful interactions of individuals. The theory analyzes meanings that people impose on events, behaviors, and events. The analysis is used to explain one's identity in terms of ideas and roles. examples in society include
1.Rainbow-Different communities view and derive different meanings of the rainbow, other view it as a symbol of hope while others associate it witj LGBTQ commuity.
2.Colorism- People of the same racial identification are treated based on their skin complexion, for instance the caucasians believed light skinned Latinos were smart.
3.Gender- The symbols attached to males, and females are believed to be sociological constructions. For instance an image of a stick figure with a dress means woman.
symbolic interactionism is useful in explaining social change within individuals of the society as people interact and exchange ideas. the way an individual sees the world colors their understanding.
