WHY DID MANY BLACK PEOPLE GO TO THE MISSION SCHOOLS?
Africans were impoverished, and Christians advocated for their welfare through education. A lot of research has found a link between religion and education. For instance, the Protestants place a higher value on formal education. Protestant missionaries’ works in former colonies are recognized through the level of literacy. Therefore, Africans went to mission schools to acquire knowledge and skills to boost their livelihood.
