Answer to Question #298108 in English for PHUMZILE ZONDI

Question #298108

After their first teaching practice, Fikile and Jaco shared their experience of teaching Natural Science and Technology. They made the following claims: “The curriculum is overloaded with content, science is taught in abstract, there is not enough time for science learning in the school timetable and there is no effective assessment and follow‐up thereby making science learning teacher‐centered and didactic,” says Jaco.  “Learners are more oriented toward traditional beliefs; they lack scientific and technological background knowledge, as well as communication skills. This is because there is a conflict between the language of instruction in science and the first language spoken most of the time at home which limits their learning,” says Fikile.  Discuss each of their experiences in detail.

Jaco argues that the school curriculum setup is old fashion, and cannot be completed on time. Nonetheless, some parts included in study are irrelevant. Furthermore, the sciene subject should be allocated more time in the school timeable so as to enable the instructors to pass knowledge successfully. The monitoring is poorly done and should be improved so as to foster the grasping of content . This may include perusal of notes, keen monitoring of experiments and examinations.

Fikkie on the other hand, complains about tge gap that exist between the instructors and the learners. According to the arguement, most studnts are not well versed with the languge used to deliver scientific content. In fact, this leaves a majority of students to depend on traditional beliefs as a substitute to technological background.
