Dr. Omalu and some other parents will not allow their children to play football. Yet, playing football or other contact sports are good experiences for many students. What should a student think about before deciding to sign up to play any contact sport, especially football?
If a student does not have their parent's permission, they will not be able to play the spot. A student should be aware of any previous injuries (particularly concussions) and use caution when deciding to participate in a contact sport and risk further injury. In addition, the student should think about why they are interested in the sport in the first place. Do they want to play because some of their friends are auditioning or because they enjoy watching the sport? If they want to participate because it is a contact sport and they are searching for a means to vent their frustrations on others, they should talk to someone instead of finding a nonviolent way to do it. This way, contact sports may be kept as safe as possible because people aren't hitting each other to damage each other, but rather to advance their place in the game, and the hit will be less aggressive and more strategy-based as a result.
