Direction: Your answers need to be thorough, and where possible, quote the text (with citation).
Chapter 4
Symbolism: When Jack sees Roger after the incident with Henry, Roger is described as “a darker shadow crept beneath the swarthiness of his skin” (57). What does this symbolize for Roger? Describe Jack’s face painting. What does it represent? How does the paint change Jack?
Expert's answer: Jack's face painting changed him. When he put it on, it kind of became like a covering that represented his uncivilized side. Undernethe was the civilized side that he was getting rid of. < Solid response. Please be a bit more elaborate on what you mean and go more in-depth with describing Jack's face painting and its symbolism/representation.
Expert's answer: Literally just copied and pasted the answer from before. Request still the same as the last one.
Jack's face painting changed him. When he put it on, it kind of became like a covering that represented his uncivilized side. Underneath was the civilized side that he was eliminating. Roger represents brutality and blood lust at their most extreme. Jack is attacking Rodger showing how he is bad pretending to be good outside. Jack can be described as a straight forward guy who does not like shortcuts.
