Piggy symbolizes intelligence, rules, tradition, science and order when he delivers the speech at the assembly. He tries to underscore the meaning of of the beast when he mentions about life being scientific. He says, "Life...is scientific.... I know there isn't no beast...but I know there isn't no fear, either.... Unless we get frightened of people."

The fire in this Chapter symbolizes survival and rescue. Keeping the fire going means keep the faith and never give up.
