How Christianity has responded to the challenges of modernity and enlightenment?
Modernity and Enlightenment present the church with unique challenges in various sectors. For instance, in modern society Christians are now pushed by their daily needs into working every day of the week. Therefore, some Christians may lack time to attend to church services during days of worship. However, the church has adapted new ways to combat the new challenges that are presented by modernity and enlightenment.
Live Christian services through various media. As more people become glued to their activities either at home or workplace, the church strains to preach to this type of congregation via live television sessions, live online streaming, live radio sessions, and active social media sessions. In modern society it is common to hold prayer meetings via zoom and WhatsApp.
The style of worship has advanced to be similar to the ones in the secular segment. In so doing, the church has managed to grab the attention of the youth in the church who might be lured by the modern music and backslide into sinful ways.
Modern education and enlightenment has participated in changing the way people view God. For instance, modern science debates on the existence of God. However, to act on this challenge the church utilizes the bible to give proof that God is at the center of creation.
The church has responded well to the challenge of digitization. In the modern world, Christians are no longer required to carry big bibles and hymn books. The church now projects the bible and hymn songs on the wall as well as allow the congregation to carry their digital devices into the church and use them during service.
in ancient Christianity, the congregation had a strict mode of dressing especially the days of worship. However, the modern church has transformed the worship place as a place to showcase new fashion. To counter this challenge, leaders of the church are forced to dressed modern so as to attract the congregation and to make them feel comfortable even though its not biblical.
